Hispanic Studies Courses
The Hispanic studies course is available for students with at least three years of previous Spanish studies and who have reached university level in their respective countries. The course is a full year course (from October to June) and is arranged as a common Spanish academic program with professors from various humanity faculties of the Complutense University.
This course is not divided in different levels of Spanish expertise, as the main focus of the course is the study of Spanish culture and not just the language. Special language courses will be arranged apart from the main subjects for students who feel it is necessary.
The lessons in this course take place from 9am to 1pm at the faculty of Philology which is found on the university campus.
Content of Course
The content of this program is focused on the most representative aspects of Spanish history and culture. The program includes seven different subjects prepared by professors in the respective areas.
The seven subjects are:
- Spanish Grammar: theory and practice.
- Spanish Literature: from Cervantes to Garcia Lorca.
- The History of Spain: Arabian Spain, Spain and America, the Spanish civil war, etc.
- Spanish Art History: from the ancient influences (Roman and Arabian art) to Velazquez, Goya, Picasso, Dali, etc.
- Spanish Texts Commentary: reading comprehension and writing skills.
- Geography of Spain: The evolution of Spain, its climate, population, industry, etc.
- The Spanish Way of Thinking: Spanish philosophers, the evolution of the Spanish way of thinking.

- Starting Dates: October 4th 2010 to June 23rd 2011. (First term: from 4th October to 21st December 2010; Second term: from 11th January to 25th March 2011; Third term: from 28th March to 23rd June 2011).
