Why Study Spanish
There are many good reasons why learning Spanish can be highly recommended.
- First of all, the Spanish language is spoken by about 400 million native speakers in 21 different countries and approx. 200 million non-native Spanish speakers have studied or are studying this widespread language.
In the last ten years the demand for Spanish Language courses worldwide has more than doubled and there is to be more than 10,000 Spanish schools in Spain alone. The numbers speak for themselves; do not let yourself be left out in what seems to be a global cultural phenomenon. - The second, and for many students the most important, reason to study Spanish is to improve their CV and help open up many future career opportunities. In the USA alone there are more than 30 million Spanish speakers and the number is increasing year by year. Being able to speak Spanish is becoming more and more important for many job positions, and in some cases it is a clear requirement. Even though Spanish is not strictly necessary for your future career, speaking a foreign language (and especially Spanish) is looked upon very positively by the majority of job interviewers.
- For many people, a third reason to learn Spanish is that they wish to be able to understand and improve their experience of the Spanish and Latin American cultures. Apart from the importance in world history, these cultures have made a huge impact on the arts, literature, music and film worlds. Being able to read the original version of Cervantes' Don Quixote or one of the many Garcia Marques books is just one of the great pleasures of understanding Spanish. Or what about seeing and understanding an Almodóvar movie in its original version or the music and art of Flamenco dancing.
