Edificio Metrópolis in Madrid
The Edificio Metrópolis is a tall and popular building in Madrid. It was constructed by the brothers Jules and Raymond Février in 1911 and was originally intended to be an insurance company. On the top of the building stands a statue with the wings of a Phoenix. This is symbolic for the winged victory of the company. In the 1970s, this statue was replaced by a newer one. There are many more statues to be found on the building and all of them represent the business of trade. Unfortunately, this building is not open for the public but it can be admired from the outside, which is still a beautiful sight.
