Palacio Real (Royal Palace)
This is where His Majesty The King of Spain is for official ceremonies, however he does not live here. Previously, an Islamic fortress was situated on this place but it was destroyed in a fire so the king at that time ordered for a new palace to be constructed. There was ongoing work on the building from 1738 until 1755. Although the decoration inside the palace has changed several times over the years, the building remains the same and is known as Palacio Real. With the changes throughout time the interior of the palace is outfitted with many decorative styles. The throne room and the armoury have been preserved to keep them intact with their original form as much as possible; they were only reopened to the public for viewing in 2000. Next to the palace are the Royal Gardens of which their present appearance dates back to 1890.
