Madrid Photos: The Prado
The Prado museum is an art museum in Madrid and one of the most important art museums in the world. It opened in 1819 and back then it was the first public art gallery in the world. In total there are over 9.000 art works in the building but only 1.500 are possible for the public to see. The building was constructed in the late 1700´s and was originally meant to be a natural science museum. However, Joseph Bonapart, the brother of Napoleon, changed it into an art museum which was home to the Royal Collection of Fernando the VII. Among the many types of arts, you can find paintings, sculptures, coins and many more.
