Why Study Spanish in Spain?
You might ask yourself "Why go all the way to Spain to learn Spanish when you can study Spanish in a language school in your home town?"
The most effective, easiest, and according to the majority of students also the most entertaining way to learn a foreign language is to study it in a country where the language is spoken. Apart from the classroom teaching being more intensive than it would normally be in your home country (3-5 hours per day compared with the 2-4 hours per week that would be normal when studying a language in your home country), the teachers are in most cases also better prepared and more experienced. In Spain, teachers are all native Spanish speakers and all have a university degree in Spanish Philology, whereas this is not always the case abroad.
But the most important reason - and what makes it so effective to study in Spain – is that you will not only be learning and practising during class hours but nearly 24 hours a day. Outside class hours, when you go to the supermarket or participate in one of the many activities arranged by GSS, you will have to practise what you have learnt in class. You will even learn Spanish with activities that are normally described as leisure such as watching TV or going out at night. This is also the reason why most students believe that learning Spanish in Spain is both an easy and an entertaining process.
So why Spain and not another Spanish speaking country?
First of all, Spain is the home of the Spanish language and the origin from which the Spanish language was exported to the rest of the Spanish speaking world, making it the natural choice for studying Spanish.
Of course this is not the most important reason – more important are all the interesting attractions this country can offer. Every year, Spain is visited by more than 40 million people, making it the second most visited country in the world. Apart from learning the language, people come to Spain to enjoy the perfect weather and nice beaches (in for example one of the many popular summer camps in Spain), to experience the many places of cultural interest such as antique Roman and Moorish monuments or fabulous museums, containing the works of Spanish painters such as Goya, Picasso and Dali, to enjoy the delicious Spanish food or fantastic nightlife and for hundreds of other reasons.
Apart from this, Spain's location also gives overseas students the ability to experience other European countries with relative ease, being only a few hours away by plane, and which will enhance the already complete experience.
