Salamanca Photos: Casa de las Conchas
The Casa de las Conchas is a very famous building in Salamanca and is situated between the new Cathedral and Plaza Mayor. Casa de las Conchas means ´House of Shells´ and if you look at the exterior closely, you can see that the walls are covered in small, stone-sculptured shells. Within the palace a courtyard can be found. Originally, it was a palace of Rodrigo Maldonado, who was a knight of the Santiago Order. It was built at the end of the 1500s and its style is mainly Gothic but, also contains Renaissance and Mudejar elements. The building was restored in the 18th century when cracks started to appear on the building.
