Salamanca Photos: New Cathedral
This new cathedral in Salamanca is one of the two famous cathedrals in the city, the other one being the Catedral vieja (old cathedral). The new one was built between the 16th and 18th century in the style of late gothic/baroque and is considerably larger than the old one. Later on, two elements were added to the cathedral because previous parts had broken off. It is built against the wall of the old cathedral causing additional reinforcement for the wall. Slight cracks can be seen throughout the building. These were caused by a massive earthquake from Lisbon in 1755. Reparations were made afterwards.
