Plaza Mayor (Main Square)
Plaza Mayor is the main square in Salamanca. It was constructed in 1755 by Felipe V and was designed by the Churriguera brothers. The primary material used for the building is sandstone. The buildings surrounding the square are made in Baroque style. Plaza Mayor is sometimes also called, ´the living room´ of the people of Salamanca and arguably the most beautiful square in whole Spain. Up until the mid 1800s there were still bullfights organized in the square; however, now you can find more tourists there. Occasionally there are also parties organized in the square. Additionally, it is possible to enjoy the nightlife in and near the Plaza Mayor. There are a lot of shops located there and you can have dinner at one of the Spanish restaurants in the square, while listening to live music from Spanish bands.
