Salamanca Photos: University
A popular place to study Spanish is at the University of Salamanca. Aside from Spanish courses, there are also many other subjects taught at the school. It was founded by King Alfonso IX in 1218 with the idea that people could study there without actually coming to the building. They could do their courses at home. Nowadays the university is considered by many to be one of the most important research universities. A notable fact is that Christopher Columbus came to the council of geographers at the Salamanca University concerning his travel to explore India by sailing West instead of East. Another fun fact is that on one of the many decorations of the University, a frog can be found on a skull. The legend tells that whoever finds this frog without the help of someone who knows it, will marry within a year.
