GSS Malaga Activities

Apart from learning the Spanish language, an important part of a study abroad program, and particularly the GSS programs, is to experience the Spanish culture and have a great time.

In Malaga, like for the other destinations offered, we have a complete program available for our students, including everything from a pre-study adaptation program to excursions, cultural activities, language exchange, parties or flamenco dancing classes.

In our long-term programs (semester and language and culture courses), we start the program with a 4 day pre-study preparation program. This initial program aims at helping our students with cultural adaptation, getting to know the city of Malaga and fellow students better, as well as being an enjoyable way of starting your program in Spain. Included in this program are guided tours around Malaga, visits to tourist attractions in the city, an introduction to the Spanish way of life, visits to Spanish restaurants, and much more.

Excursions

Our excursions away from Malaga take place approximately once per month, during weekends or local holidays, and are of between 2 and 5 days of duration.
Excursions will typically be to popular locations and places of touristic interest in Spain like Seville, Cadiz or Morocco which are all fairly close by (see examples below). All our excursions include hotel, transport and guides. All details and destinations for excursions are available approximately one month before the trip takes place.

  • Seville. Weekend trip to Seville, including cultural visits, going out at night, and a visit to the amusement and aqua/water park 'Isla Magica'.
  • Granada. Weekend trip to Granada with cultural visits to the many famous monuments in Granada, a visit to the Sierra Nevada Mountains, as well as including having fun at night.
  • Tarifa (Cadiz). Long weekend excursion to one of the most famous beaches in Spain, which includes sporting activities like windsurfing, kite surfing and horse riding, as well as enjoying some of the nightlife and then, on the way back, visiting the Rock of Gibraltar.
  • Morocco. 3-4 day trip to visit Morocco with local guides and which includes guided trips to a Moorish bazaar, a flea market and the possibility to try the typical camel trips arranged for tourists.

Local Activities

Apart from excursions, we also arrange a number of local activities in and near to Malaga. These activities include everything from cultural events to beach parties, and are arranged throughout the month in and around Malaga. All events are arranged not only to make sure that our students are having fun but also to help them improve their Spanish. Below you can find examples of events we arrange.

  • Visits to nearby towns and places of interest (Nerja -a small white village-, Marbella -the Spanish "Monaco"-, Mijas -a typical Spanish village-,etc.)
  • Cultural activities like visits to the Alcazaba fortress or the Picasso museum in Malaga.
  • Visits to amusement parks (aqua/water parks, amusement parks such as Tivoli World, safari parks...)
  • Guided night tours to some of the most popular restaurants, pubs and discotheques in Malaga and in the nearby tourist areas of Costa del Sol.
  • Flamenco dancing classes.
  • Language exchange with Spanish students.
  • Location: On the southern tip of Spain just across from Morocco.
  • Population:600, 000 approx. - hence, the sixth largest in Spain.
  • Climate: Subtropical–Mediterranean with very mild winters, hot summers and plenty of sunshine all year round.
