Credits at Malaga University
When studying Spanish abroad it is important to learn the language, have a great experience, as well as then be able to use the studies in Spain to validate current studies in your home country and also for future professional use.
At GSS we will support you through the credit application process as we know it is important that you receive a recognized certificate and that you also receive credits for your studies in Spain. Below, you can find further information about the certificates given and credits available for the programs we offer at Malaga University.
Diplomas & Certificates
All students participating in one of the Spanish language and culture courses arranged by Malaga University who have participated in at least 80% of classes will receive a Certificate of Attendance. The Certificate of Attendance will state what course you have taken part in and at what level, but without any final evaluation or marks. Apart from the certificate of attendance, it is possible to get a Malaga University Certificate which is similar to the Certificate of Attendance but requires you to pass the final exam. This certificate will also state your final mark and the number of hours of class.
- Certificate of Course. This certificate is similar to the Certificate of Attendance but in order to obtain this, students have to participate in at least 80% of all classes as well as pass the final exam. This certificate will also state your final evaluation and the number of hours of class.
- Sufficiency in Spanish Language. To get this certificate, students must take a course for at least one month and then pass the Sufficiency exam set by Malaga University. This certificate will state your exam result and also the level reached.
- Diploma of Hispanic Studies. To get the diploma of Hispanic studies, you will have to take a minimum of a 4 month course at one of the two highest levels. Apart from this, you will have to participate in at least 80% of all classes, pass the sufficiency exam, and at least 8 (5 for the 3 hour course) of the culture courses you have participated in during the semester. This diploma will state the final marks obtained and the number and type of classes taken.
- Diploma of Higher Hispanic Studies. To get the diploma of Higher Hispanic studies, you will have to take a minimum of an 8 month course at one of the two highest levels. Apart from this, you will have to participate in at least 80% of all classes, pass the sufficiency exam, and at least 16 (10 for the 3 hour course) of the culture courses you have participated in during the semester. This diploma will state the final marks obtained and the number and type of classes taken.
Credits
If you need credits for your Spanish studies at Malaga University the first thing you will have to do is to contact your study abroad advisor or Spanish language department for full information about what is needed and what the application process is (see also the section Credits & Diplomas for more information).
Below you can find information about the ECTS credits available for each of the programs at Malaga University. The number of US semester credits is an approximate number as the final number of credits given depends on the evaluation made by your university.
- Monthly Intensive Course: 90-hour course with 9 ECTS credits (approx. 6 US semester credits)
- Trimester Course: 225-hour course with 22,5 ECTS credits (approx. 15 US semester credits)
