Catedral de la Encarnación

Malaga Photos: Catedral de la Encarnación

One of the most interesting places to visit in Malaga is the Cathedral de Encarnación. This is a stunningly tall cathedral built right in the centre of Malaga and it reaches far above the buildings surrounding it. The construction took place between 1528 and 1782 and it is situated right above the old site of an ancient mosque. The exterior of the building is made in Gothic style and the interior is a combination of Renaissance and Baroque. An interesting fact is that, it was originally planned to build two towers but due to a lack of finances, only one was finished in the end. This gave the cathedral the nickname of 'La Manquita' which means 'One armed lady'.
