Teatro Romano (Roman Theatre)
The Roman Theatre in Málaga is situated next to the Alcazaba fortress. This amphitheatre was used for entertainment in the time of the Romans and it was built in the First century by Emperor Augustus and used till the Third century. It was discovered in 1951 when they planned to build a library on this spot. When they discovered that there was already an ancient amphitheatre situated at that place they stopped the construction of the library and built it somewhere else. There are still excavations being carried out to try and discover more Roman structures. The Arabs used some of the construction of the theatre to build the currently well known Alcazaba fortress on. The whole site is 31 metres long and 16 metres tall.
